Partners
The principal mechanism for delivering the outputs of the LLN is through the Progression Working Groups (PWGs). Each PWG is chaired by, and consists of, partner institutions with provision in the relevant sector area.
A range of innovative and collaborative projects with partner institutions are funded by the LLN and the outcomes of these are added to the downloads section upon completion. Furthermore, additional student numbers (ASNs) are allocated to purposes directly linked to the achievement of the aims and targets set out in the LLN business plan.

Credit Transfer and Progression Agreements
A key factor in providing flexibility and structure for learners is our commitment to the development of credit based progression routes from further education to higher education.
It is our role to produce network-wide progression agreements underpinned by a clearly understood system of credit. Progression agreements will help students to easily identify which vocational courses and programmes should enable them to progress into specific degrees in named universities within the Lifelong Learning Network.
Additionally, we aim to work closely with employers and work-based learning providers as well as the educational institutions which show a strong willingness to engage with the LLN in mutually recognising credit-based programmes across the network.
One of the most significant elements of this project will be a pilot with selected employers to test and trial work-based credit to provide an important avenue for vocational learners into higher education.

Information, Advice and Guidance
We fully recognise the importance of delivering high quality information, advice and guidance together with learner support services across the four curriculum sector areas.
In 2007, the LLN commisioned the Centre for Guidance Studies to map and identify gaps in IAG provision for vocational learners at level 3 moving into higher education. From the results of this analysis, we are developing a programme to fill the gaps in existing services. This will entail a whole raft of initiatives, from promoting progression agreements with learners, staff development through to learner tracking, in order to ensure more vocational learners have the help they need right through their period of higher education.
